Dear NLCS families,
All NLCS school cafeterias have implemented the new meal pattern guidelines required through the USDA/IN-DOE for school meals, ensuring that meals are healthy, well-balanced and provide students the nutrition they need to succeed at school. School meals currently offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins, and grains, as well as meet the strict limits on saturated fat, sodium regulations, and portion size.School lunches also meet additional State standards requiring:
· Age–appropriate calorie limits
· Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of fruit or vegetable)
· A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green, red/orange vegetables and legumes
· Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
· Whole grains
· Lower sodiumApplying the new mandated meal pattern guidelines to our menus will help provide your children a high quality, nutritious breakfast and lunch. We are always working to offer North Lawrence Community School students healthy and delicious choices.
You may pay by cash or check at any NLCS school, or log on to www.sendmoneytoschool.com and pay by credit card.
Now is the perfect time to encourage your children to choose school breakfast and lunch! We look forward to seeing your child(ren) in our cafeterias.
Sincerely,
Stacie Green
